Our mission is helping people triumph over mental illness, alcoholism, drug and other addictions

2023: Continuing to EVOLVE

Recovery Resources has a long history of evolving to meet the expanding needs of the community. From its origins as the National Council on Alcoholism, founded by Martha (Marty) Baker in 1955, to the expansion of its mission including services for those experiencing mental illness, substance use disorder and other addictions, Recovery Resources has been a leader in serving the community for nearly 70 years.

In 2023, Recovery Resources Board of Directors, leadership and employees continued to EVOLVE around the needs of the community. As we reflect on all that was accomplished, we considered how the organization evolved – directly and through partnerships – over the year.

EMPLOYEES

Employees at Recovery Resource provided more than 33,000 visits and served over 6,000 clients in 2023. Through these visits, Recovery Resources expanded its clinical treatment group offerings, expanded the psychiatric services team by welcoming two new Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) and provided educational opportunities for the next generation of psychiatrists by hosting The MetroHealth System residents and fellows under the leadership of Dr. Neera Gupta, our medical director.

VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers have been an integral part of how Recovery Resources partners in serving the community. We are grateful for the Recovery Resources Associate Board who – once again – planned and hosted the Run for Recovery. This committed group of individuals raised awareness of the resources available to support wellness and recovery. Through the 11th annual event, $66,354 was raised to provide much needed resources – such as transportation – to Recovery Resources clients. Additionally, Associate Board and Recovery Resources Board of Directors member volunteers hosted the first Client Holiday Party in four years, while staff volunteers worked hard on our Client Resource Drive to provide essential cold-weather clothing and other necessary items to Recovery Resources clients and their family members.

OPPORTUNITIES

Opportunities to partner and collaborate in new and expanded ways were discovered in 2023. Recovery Resources has a long-standing partnership with the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Mental Health and Developmental Disability Docket leadership. In 2023, Recovery Resources and the courts partnered to establish the foundation for a new Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) program. This program provides a team-based model – between Recovery Resources, the courts and probation - to provide much-needed services for individuals engaged in the criminal justice system. The program partners holistically with individuals to increase the likelihood that individuals meet their mental health and probation goals and reduces recidivism.

LINKING

Linking community members to services was one of the primary goals for Recovery Resources’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grant. This team served over 300 individuals in our community through the grant. So often as a health care system, clients are expected to find their way to treatment, often initially without support. Through the SAMHSA Team, we were able to meet community members where they were, providing necessary linkage to community resources and clinical treatment. The SAMHSA Team assisted clients in engaging in clinical services, identifying housing and supported clients in working towards their goals.

VISITORS

Visitors came to Recovery Resources to learn more about the services provided and how we might partner in addressing the mental health and addiction needs of our community. Recovery Resources was honored to host Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne in November. During County Executive Ronayne’s visit, he learned more about the areas of greatest need for those we serve – including transportation and housing. County Executive Ronayne shared that addressing the needs of our community members experiencing mental illness and addiction, as well as transportation and housing, are also priorities for his office and leadership team. We were also honored to host City of Cleveland Ward 13 Council Member Kris Harsh in March of 2023. During councilman Harsh’s visit, Recovery Resources clinical leaders shared the many programs offered to the community, the prevalence of community members experiencing mental illness and addiction and how we can collaborate on serving together. These conversations created opportunities for collaboration and understanding the needs of the community and who our agency serves.

EXPANDED ACCESS

Expanded access through the “The Access to Care” team’s evolved model which included centralizing the assessment process to serve both Recovery Resources clients and The MetroHealth System patients who were taking their first steps towards mental wellness and recovery. The Access to Care team offers same-day and walk-in assessments and is available to schedule visits within one week. Evolving the model to create this level of access removed barriers to assure that when someone is ready to engage in services, they can access care right away.

Grateful to Our Partners

2023 was a year of significant effort and evolution which could not have been achieved without support. We are grateful for our funding partners – Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), The Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Service (OHMHAS), Cuyahoga County Alcohol, Drug Addiction & Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board, as well as the Casino and Lottery Commissions. We are grateful for the support of our Board of Directors who give insight and guidance to Recovery Resources' strategy. We are grateful for our employees who provide essential services to our clients and go along the journey with them on their roads to wellness and recovery. We are grateful for our clients who place their trust in us to help them achieve their goals during some of their most difficult times.

Finally, we are grateful for you – the community member who believes in the mission of Recovery Resources of helping our neighbors’ triumph over mental illness, alcoholism, drug and other addictions.

Highest Regards,
